Eyes to Argus to perform ‘in habit’ Live at Spazju Kreattiv

Tuesday, 5 October 2021, 12:29 Last update: about 4 years ago

On 8 and 9 October, local post-rock leaning band Eyes to Argus will take centre stage at Spazju Kreattiv’s Theatre to perform their new album ‘in habit’, released in July. Finally celebrating its launch, the band will perform the album in its entirety on both nights.

Eyes to Argus are known for their signature sound, which has roots in genres like post-rock, ambient and shoegaze. Despite a clear influence, the band does not stick to the tropes of these genres and the result is a sound which is as catchy and uplifting as it is atmospheric and dreamy. Eyes to Argus stand out from other bands in this style because of their prominent use of vocals, which are largely absent in these genres. in habit, the band's second album, has done well in the few months it has been out, and it has helped the band garner a strong local and international audience. Released via Post. Recordings, a record label from Indianapolis in the US, the album was also pressed for vinyl by dunk!pressing in Belgium and distributed in the US, EU and Malta.

Eyes to Argus will be joined by a different supporting act on each night, including electronic artist Aidan Somers on Friday and indie rock band Bennie Blue on Saturday. The stage will also be transformed by Late Interactive to represent the colours and themes of the album.

in habit was inspired by the idea that we all experience the same spaces differently. On the six tracks of the album, the band discusses personal stories about the spaces they grew up in, the spaces that changed throughout the years and the people within them. These themes sparked a collaboration with six local visual artists, Sam Falzon, Elisa von Brockdorff, Moira Zahra, Theo Cachia, Malcolm Alden and Matthew Cardona, who each created an artwork for a song on the album. These artworks were created with direction from YMCA Malta and are included in the in habit vinyl package as a postcard set.

Though Eyes to Argus have never been part of the local mainstream circuit, they have been prolific within alternative circles. The band released their debut album VEER in 2017 and a standalone single Microcosm in 2019 prior to signing with Post. Recordings in 2020. Eyes to Argus have shared the stage with esteemed international acts such as Mokadelic, Staghorn and Yndi Halda.

All in all, in habit was an ambitious release for Eyes to Argus and it is fitting that their appearance at Spazju Kreattiv will be their most ambitious concert to date. But, as people who have been following the band for a few years may attest, the time is as right as ever.
