Former PS files libel suit against author

Thursday, 28 October 2021, 10:10 Last update: about 3 years ago

Former parliamentary secretary Rosianne Cutajar has filed a libel suit against author Mark Camilleri.

In a post of Facebook, the Labour MP did not say on what grounds she felt offended by the “slanderous declarations” he made.

Camilleri recently published an e-book, “A rent seeker’s paradise”, which he says includes “untold stories about government sanctioned criminal activity”. He claimed in the book that Cutajar had an intimate relationship with Yorgen Fenech, who is accused of being a mastermind in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

In her post, Cutajar said she will not allow her integrity to be tarnished.

Cutajar resigned from her post as parliamentary secretary earlier this year.

Standards Commissioner George Hyzler had investigated Cutajar's alleged links to a multi-million euro property deal involving Fenech.

He found a prima facie breach of ethics by Cutajar when she pocketed more than €46,000 by brokering a 2019 property sale to Fenech and did not declare that income in her declaration of assets, and advised MPs to refer the case to the Inland Revenue Commissioner.

Cutajar, who denies any wrongdoing, stayed on as an MP.
