Syrian critically injured after violent argument in Marsa; two others also hospitalised

A violent argument in Marsa early on Monday morning has left three people in hospital, one of whom is suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Police said in a statement that the Hamrun district police and the major crimes unit were investigating the argument at around 3:30am.

Police said that they were informed that in two places close to the Marsa park and ride there were two men suffering from injuries sprawled on the ground.  Soon after, a third man walked into the Hamrun police station covered with blood, where he then collapsed unconscious.

All three men were taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment while police investigations to establish whether the incidents were isolated or not began.

Preliminary investigations in fact found that the three people men were involved in an argument between each other at Triq is-Serkin in Marsa, and a piece of metal was used at some point as well.

The three men were identified as a 34-year-old Syrian, a 31-year-old Libyan, and a 30-year-old Somali.

The Syrian was certified as suffering from life-threatening injuries, while the other two were certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

Duty magistrate Rachel Montebello is leading a magisterial inquiry while police investigations are ongoing.
