Malta woke up to a thunderstorm and heavy rain which, as usually happens, has flooded several parts of the islands.

Motorists have reported flooded roads in low-lying areas such as Msida, Qormi and Birkirkara, but other parts have been hit by the downpour.

The road just outside Mater Dei Hospital is also flooded, and pedestrians have been seen walking on ledges to avoid flooded pavements.

The Maltese Roads Traffic Updates Facebook page is reporting two open manholes in Valley Road, urging drivers to exercise caution.
