The new greening project for the urban areas in Żabbar will be one of the many initiatives to rejuvenate several areas around the island, particularly in the South of Malta, as announced by the Minister for Environment Aaron Farrugia.

The project planned for Triq is-Santwarju, Triq Biċċieni and Triq Santa Duminka will include water walls, vertical landscapes with green façades on personal homes, and the introduction of green roofing.

This is to improve relaxation and quality of life among residents in Żabbar, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions, air and noise pollution and the reduction of urban heat island effect, added Farrugia.

Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat said that it is a necessity to invest in the Maltese public’s social wellbeing, and that the project was funded by Malta’s passport-selling fund – the National Development and Social Fund.

He continued on to say that the National Development and Social Fund has allocated 600 million for such projects.

Finance Minister Clyde Caruana said that the government has a commitment to continue to enrich localities around Malta for a greener environment.
