Road safety campaign launched by Transport Ministry in collaboration with ‘The Travellers’

Wednesday, 1 December 2021, 17:15 Last update: about 3 years ago

Transport Malta, the Malta Road Safety Council and popular band ‘The Travellers’ have joined forces to campaign against drink driving during the Christmas holiday period.

The slogan chosen for the campaign was extracted from The Travellers new song ‘Siggu Vojt’ (empty chair).

Transport Minister Ian Borg said that “although this message is important throughout the year, December calls for more celebrations than usual and that’s why it is of utmost importance to remain vigilant during this period.”

He also called on people to use alternative modes of transport, especially when certain activities would lead to more alcohol consumption than normal.

“Public transport and other form of transport like taxis and vans are always available in order to reduce accidents. It is our duty to ensure road safety at all times, everyone has a family waiting for them at home.”

The song written by The Travellers tells the heartbreaking story of the consequences brought about by driving under not only the influence of alcohol but also other substances.

The song will be released on 6 December.
