A body found at sea last week has been identified as that of 42-year-old Danilo Scolari, police said in a statement.

Scolari – a diver by profession - was reported missing on 23 November, having last been seen in his camouflage wetsuit at the Freeport in Birzebbuga.

Police found his body at sea three days later, on 26 November in the sea close to the island of Filfla.

Police announced the identification of the body on Friday.

Magistrate Yana Micallef Stafrace is leading a magisterial inquiry into the case.
