Covid-19: 59 new cases reported, as number of people in hospital continues to rise

The number of new Covid-19 cases recorded on Saturday was lower than the one registered in the past days, but the number of patients with Covid-19 in hospital continues to rise, figures released by the health authorities show.

Fifty-nine new cases were recorded, a lower figure when compared to the 133 and 138 that were recorded Friday and Thursday.

The number of people in hospital has however risen to 21, up from the 11 on Thursday and the 15 on Friday. Two of them are in intensive care.

There were 60 patients who recovered on Saturday, meaning that the number of active cases has remained more or less the same, at 1,347.

No deaths were reported, with the number of victims remaining at 468.

The health authorities said 968,248 vaccination doses have been administered, of which 129,330 are booster jabs.

Malta has had 39,773 cases of the virus so far. 37,639 of those have recovered, while 468 have died.
