This past week has surpassed all imaginable levels of indecency. Just because it is a government entity, a ministry, a Representative to the EU does not mean that we can get away with euphemisms for the common theft, indecent proposals and blatant abuse of public funds channeled to individuals with special status amongst the governmental organization. Essentially, the government should do nothing less than resign over the scandalous deals and system of patronage it has been running.
This is not governing. This is running a clandestine illicit business. It is bringing to power those who are indoctrinated into the corrupt regime intent on pursuing a mortal blow to anything that has meaning, value and cultural references, justice and peace. Far from the creation of a middle class. Much more the spawn of greed and immorality and an under-class society.
In a little while the Maltese people who still possessed some trust and a sense of truth and honour, who had tried to steer their way through this morass of filth and greed, will have to succumb to their disgust and the indecency of the innumerable scandals taking place.
First we were vehemently shamed by Helena Dalli’s cancelling of Christmas in an effort to appear like the most modern and secularized nation in Europe and earn some accolades for herself. Naturally, it has seriously backfired with even his Holiness Pope Francis bringing to bear all his weight against the scandalous draft on inclusivity in the EU.
This was swiftly followed by The Shift’s reporting on the Auditor General’s report onto the Malta Business Registry’s rental of premises. The audit found that through a 15-year agreement, signed in 2018 under the guidance of Economy Minister Silvio Schembri, the government will be paying a total of €31,264,126 to use the premises at Alex Mercieca’s Bathroom Centre. Money down the toilet if there ever was a better description for it. The Auditor described the figure as “prohibitive”. In addition to the rent itself, huge sums of money were spent on refurbishing the empty shell and converting it into office space, along with awarding a €40,000 contract to a canteen operation basically operating a business gifted by the tax payer.
The shame of it all beggars belief and surpasses any reasonable understanding of how such business is allowed to be conducted. Having Nexia BT as the auditors of MBR reveals some measure of understanding on how it could have happened.
Without time even to catch our breath, the next obscenity is revealed. Once again, Lionel Gerada, the Malta Tourism Authority’s head of events, features in the plans to book accommodation at the 5 star Phoenicia Hotel in Floriana, for MTA staff to take their free time and free rides at the Christmas Village in Valletta over a period of 2 weeks. Absolutely incredible were it not that this is the embedded mentality that prevails in all the octopus arms of the Joseph Muscat - Robert Abela gig.
They have prepared well for Christmas. The stocking is full, the champagne is ready to be popped, Happy Holidays. And the polls pull the sledge, packed with gifts.
It is outrageous and unacceptable. The time has come, well overdue, for this government to pack its fat bags and call it a day. It must be held to account for all the atrocities, the contracts riddled with cronyism and hidden deals, the corruption and the shadow of criminal activity that falls over it.
What is unbelievable is how Robert Abela and his cabinet can sit through all this and face the country.
When you think of nurses, doctors, industrial action due to unresolved disputes which are causing suffering, or those property owners who have had to fight in court against a system that entrenches them in an anachronistic scheme designed to prohibit them from their rights and essentially making them providers of social housing, it simply makes you feel revolted. We just cannot take anymore.
€31 million to use the premises at Alex Mercieca’s Bathroom Centre when previously the MBR shared their office with the MFSA but were sliced off and another nice niche of revenue for the fortunate was purposely created. There is absolutely no limit to the ambition of building a web for the provision of corrupt deals.
All of this whilst the nation’s finances are beyond any reasonable level of deficit and debt. The debt is not there because of investing in the infrastructure of the country in necessary projects. It is a recurrent deficit as a result of the continuous spending on excessive employment within the government, on the direct orders given out and on the building of a state within the state. It is also due to the compensation that the government has to pay out to victims of its unconstitutional laws and to injured parties. What do they care that ultimately they are paying out with our own money? Or the losses incurred with the grey-listing?
Those who say they trust Robert Abela and will vote Labour are saying they trust the leader of the sub-culture and the mis-appropriation of our national sovereignty to serve the needs of the immoral and unelected state. Not of Malta. This is territory outside Parliament. The closest thing to it are the citizens and passports belonging to those who bought them and the un-tabled agreements that paved the way for them.
Treason is a-foot here. The action of betraying someone or something. Treachery and the betrayal of trust. Girgenti-type of celebration for those people who have been groomed to become the stooges of Labour’s web of indecency.
How long are we going to take shelter in the past? When will reality hit and protest rise? These events are not taking place in isolation. They rise from permissiveness and impunity, from a culture of absolute power and there is no reigning in of the rampant immoral and toxic mentality in sight. If anything, it is worse. They are the continuation of a series of similar flagrant incidents of money grabbing schemes. The portfolio of investment by stealth. Based on similar personalities who are given a cult status and the keys to the halls of power.
All of this taking place under the auspices of the previous Minister of Finance and today the Governor of the Central Bank.
We are seeing that living the lifestyle of the all- powerful does occasionally take its toll on the health and freedom of the individual. But one really needs to have a stomach lined with steel, a safe fortress in one’s belly to chew on all that dosh and get up in the morning and do it all again.
We wonder who is really in charge at the MTA. Konrad Mizzi had made the MTA his own special theatre. People like Lionel Gerada were not given their positions through regular channels and applications.
The NAO had similarly called out the Malta Gaming Authority for its own anarchy in spending.
For Labour, everything constitutes fair game, including the eradication of a third millennium of Christianity. Ho Ho Ho.
