PN asks Naxxar mayor to resign over conflict of interest

The Nationalist Party have asked Naxxar mayor Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami to resign from her post over an undeclared conflict of interest.

The request came from party secretary Michael Piccinino after consultation with party leader Bernard Grech.

Muscat Fenech Adami, who represents the PN as the locality’s mayor, caused raised eyebrows after she voted in favour of a mega-development on the former trade fair grounds, despite the fact that the council had said it would vote against the project when it came before the Planning Authority.

MaltaToday on Sunday revealed that Muscat Fenech Adami is a secretary in a company where the architect of the project is a shareholder.  She denied that she had any conflict of interest.

Her party however has not seen it that way, and requested her resignation.

The party said that if she does not resign within 24 hours, then her case will be put before the party’s discipline and ethics commission which will investigate it and reach its own conclusions.

The party said that it expects the highest standards from officials and from all those who in some way or another represent it.
