Apart from being of the latest model of vehicles, the new ambulances have been equipped with the latest and best apparatus needed for the needs and care of the patients, said Fearne.

“Specialists were sent to Germany so that in collaboration with the manufacturers, the vehicles’ specifications are met so that it can be custom-made for Malta,” Fearne said.

He described Malta’s ambulances as mobile ITUs, equipped with all the necessary devices for emergency ambulance responders to utilise, as well as CCTV cameras so that specialists can monitor the patient’s situation from a control room at the hospital.

Head of the Emergency Department Michael Spiteri said that the equipment in these ambulances replicates those in a resuscitation room in the Emergency room, providing absolute security for the first responders as well as the patient. Care will be given with immediacy at the site of an incident as well as on the way to the hospital, he said.
