Covid-19: Another 917 push number of active cases to above 5,000; man aged 40 dies

Another 917 Covid-19 cases has pushed the number of active cases in Malta to above 5,000 for the first time, the health authorities said.

A 40-year-old man has become the 474th victim.

Health sources said he was unvaccinated.

The 917 cases registered Saturday is the second highest figure of daily cases, following the 955 found on Friday.

The health authorities said that 96 patients recovered, leaving the number of active cases at a record 5,289.

There are 68 patients in hospital, two fewer than on Friday. Four of them are in intensive care.

The number of vaccination doses administered is now 1,030,496, of which 187,277 are booster doses.

Malta has had 45,586 cases of Covid-19 so far. 39,504 of those have recovered.
