The Malta Football Association has decided to suspend all football matches for two weeks owing to the Covid-19 situation being faced by many clubs on the island.
The decision was taken on Monday after a request for the postponement was submitted by the Malta Professional Football Club Association (MPFCA).
The matches will continue in the week of 17 January.
The postponement applies to all structures of Maltese football – meaning that it includes the Premier League, Challenge League, and Amateur League along with youth football, women’s football, and futsal.
The request from the MPFCA came after a number of clubs reported having several players who are either positive for Covid-19 or in mandatory quarantine.
Under current restrictions, spectators were not allowed to attend any matches until 17 January, when only those who have received the booster dose would have been allowed entry.
