PN MP David Thake has filed a libel case against a One News editor and a One News journalist over a news article published under the title 'Thake iħallas biss wara li nkixef li ma ħallasx il-VAT' (Thake only pays after it is revealed that he didn't pay VAT).

Times of Malta had reported that Nationalist MP David Thake's company owes some €270,000 in unpaid VAT dues and that he was set to sign a repayment plan with the authorities. It reported that Thake had been in talks with the Inland Revenue Department for the past weeks over the pending VAT bill.

One News then published an article which read that Thake reached agreement with the Tax Department to pay back what is owed after it was revealed that he had more than a quarter of a million owed to the State in VAT. Thake has filed a libel case against the author of the article appearing on One News and the editor, arguing that their article is defamatory and libellous.
