Andy Ellul officially co-opted to Parliament

Monday, 10 January 2022, 16:40 Last update: about 3 years ago

Andy Ellul has been officially co-opted to Parliament after he was chosen for the post by the Labour Party.

Ellul was sworn in on Monday when Parliament reconvened after the Christmas holidays.

He replaces Silvio Grixti, who resigned after it emerged he had been interrogated by financial crimes police over alleged medical certificate fraud. No one contested the casual election on the third district, paving the way for a co-option.

Andy Ellul was being mentioned together with home affairs ministry spokesperson Rebecca Buttigieg and Mosta mayor Romilda Zarb as being PM Robert Abela’s favourites to take Grixti’s seat.

Ellul will also be contesting the upcoming general election on the 3rd district – which is the district where Grixti had been elected as well. He was born in 1975 and achieved his law degree in 2007. He specialises in administrative law. Ellul and his partner Claudia Cuschieri have a 7-year-old son named Gianni.

It is the latest co-option in this legislature, and he joins Finance Minister Clyde Caruana, Energy Minister Miriam Dalli, and backbenchers Oliver Scicluna and Jonathan Attard in the list of co-options in the past year and a half.
