516 new Covid-19 cases found as woman dies while positive for virus

516 new cases of Covid-19 were reported by health authorities on Friday, as a woman has become the latest person to die while positive for the virus.

In their daily update, authorities said that a 68-year-old woman had passed away while positive for the virus.  She becomes the 23rd person to die while positive for Covid-19 this year, and Malta’s 501st victim of the pandemic.

1,255 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, taking the number of active cases down to 11,561.

104 patients are currently receiving treatment at Mater Dei Hospital, with eight of those in intensive care.

1,159,050 doses of the vaccine have been administered, with 297,915 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 62,844 cases of Covid-19.  50,433 of those have recovered, while 501 have died.
