Updated: Grech calls Adrian Delia, Therese Comodini Cachia after online spat

Tuesday, 25 January 2022, 15:08 Last update: about 3 years ago

Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has called MPs Adrian Delia and Therese Comodini Cachia following an online spat between the two.

Comodini Cachia took aim at fellow MP Adrian Delia in a Tweet on Tuesday, over the latter's questioning of a journalist in a libel case.

Adrian Delia had performed a personal cross-examination of Lovin Malta editor Julian Bonnici, in a libel case he (Delia) filed against the journalist.

The libel case is over an August 2021 Lovin Malta story which alleged that Yorgen Fenech claimed that Delia messaged him during a Parliamentary debate about 17 Black.

Comodini Cachia tweeted: "Do you find the questioning of a journalist by an MP in his own case as surreal and in utterly poor taste as I do? True he can but doesn't anyone think this flies in the face of the press freedom MPs should be fighting for?!"

There is no love lost between the two PN MPs after Comodini Cachia had been one of the faces of the internal rebellion that had ousted the former PN Leader back in 2020.

According to reports, Grech called both MPs on Tuesday afternoon. The president of the PN’s executive committee, Mark Anthony Sammut, confirmed that Grech had spoken to the MPs but said the case was now “closed.”
