Dalli, Azzopardi in Facebook spat over November party

Wednesday, 2 February 2022, 12:40 Last update: about 3 years ago

Energy Minister Miriam Dalli and Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi squabbled over a party that was organised by Dalli’s ministry in November, and which ended up being the subject of a parliamentary question submitted by the PN member.

Azzopardi asked the minister to give details about the party, held at Numero Uno at Ta’ Qali, such as who was invited, who organised it, how much it cost and who among those present were public officers.

In her reply, Dalli said that the information will be collected and given in another sitting.

On Facebook, Azzopardi uploaded a photo of the PQ and the reply, saying that this is another “scandal”. While in the PQ he made no reference to Covid restrictions, on Facebook the MP said that the party was held at a time when there were orders from the health authorities against the holding of such activity.

Dalli did not take long to reply, reminding the MP that the real scandals are those on which the Auditor General drew up reports. She was probably referring to investigations by the NAO on deals which were reached when Azzopardi was a minister, involving the transfer of property in St Julian’s in 2012 and the expropriation of land in Fekruna Bay in 2013.

She then gave some details about the event, which she said was a networking activity held on 30 November for people who collaborate with the ministry and entities under its responsibility. The event was held according to health protocols in place at the time.

“No lies from Azzopardi will dampen the work of the ministry,” Dalli wrote.
