Konrad Mizzi to miss PAC meeting on medical grounds

Wednesday, 2 February 2022, 08:35 Last update: about 3 years ago

Former Minister Konras Mizzi will not be attending the meeting of the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday on medical grounds.

Late last year Mizzi was admitted to hospital for treatment and it is understood that a follow-up appointment was scheduled for today.

He has informed the PAC that he is unable to attend today’s meeting but will be available next week.

He was expected to face questions by PAC members after finishing an eight-hour presentation on the Electrogas project, spanned over two months, and interspersed further by his medical emergency.

He has been testifying since November. Initially, he had not obeyed the summons of the committee, but later accepted to attend. He was given permission to make a presentation on the power station project, which however protracted into multiple sessions, with the Opposition members accusing him of employing delaying tactics in the hope that an election is called to halt the process.

Last week, when the Opposition MPs started asking questions, Mizzi took offence at their line of questioning and, for two sessions, did not reply to the questions they made, seeking the Speaker’s protection.

The Speaker issued his ruling on Thursday, and Mizzi was expected to start replying this afternoon. His medical appointment pushes the process into next week.
