Updated (2): APS Bank employee dies after being hit by car in Mriehel

A man has died after being run over by a car this morning, the police said.

The accident took place at 9.30am in Mdina Road, Mriehel, close to the Farsons factory, in the direction towards Fleur-de-Lys.

The man, a 50-year-old from Balzan, was hit by a Toyota Vitz driven by a 34-year-old woman of Valletta.

The man, an APS Bank employee named James Buttigieg, was certified dead on site.

In a post on its Facebook page, APS announced said that James was a highly respected colleague and he will be sorely missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing and working with him, most especially his colleagues in the Commercial Banking Department.

Magistrate Marsenne Farrugia is leading an inquiry.
