Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said on Sunday that Prime Minister Robert Abela will be contesting on the fifth district because he wants to undermine his own colleagues.

During a Nationalist Party rally held in Żurrieq, Grech confirmed once again that he will be contesting the general election on the fifth district of which Żurrieq forms a part of.

He said that he will be contesting "out of conviction, and not convenience like the Prime Minister."

"This is in contrast to Robert Abela, as he will be contesting on the same distrct because he is afraid of his own colleagues. We have a Prime Minister who is uncertain," Grech said.

Grech began his speech by acknowledging the devastating situation in Ukraine as they have come under attack from Russian forces. He led a minute of silence for the people in Ukraine.

"The election is less than a month away, but we can't help but be with the Ukrainian people. We cannot remain silent and unprovoked violence cannot continue. We need to be proactive with a clear message.

In addition to closing the country's airspace to Russian aircraft, "we must cancel any sports activities organised with Russian teams as we don't play with killers. We must also stop selling Maltese passports to Russians while they continue to kill other people," Grech said.

Grech turned to the election in Malta. "With each passing day, the PN is growing stronger. We see this through the way people are approaching the party and promising that they will give us their full support in order to change this country's direction," Grech said.

He spoke about a number of proposals which have already been announced and said that when he promises something, he always keeps his word.

Grech criticised the Labour Party and said that in comparison to the PN, the Labour Party has not yet presented its electoral program and the first week of the campaign has already passed.

"On the other hand, the PN confirmed how well prepared it really is. The PN is a united team prepared not only to campaign, but to govern again. "

"The Labour party thought that we would have a negative campaign, but instead they are facing a positive one that is convincing more people that the PN's vision is built for the people and for Malta," Grech said.

Meanwhile, Grech noted that whilst the PN seeks to consult and discuss with experts to identify the best path forward for Malta, Robert Abela is a "negative and reactive Prime Minister" who has links with a criminal group.

For his concluding remarks, Grech encouraged supporters to help share the Nationalist Party's message and try to convince those who are still yet unsure of the path forward they want to choose for Malta.

The rally in Żurrieq also saw Nationalist MEP David Casa as well as Vice President of MŻPN Jake Scerri Seychell speak.
