The Minister together with Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat visited the ongoing works on site, where they had the opportunity to plant trees.

More than 2,500 trees, some of which are mature carob and olive trees, together with shrubs and plants will be planted as part of this project.

Farrugia said that this National Development and Social Fund funded project, which costs around €1.5 million, will offer an open green space that will continue to better the quality of life of nearby residents. This project is expected to be completed in the coming months.

He added that he looks forward to implementing more such projects, so that every locality can have its own open green space.

Muscat said that this project is part of a series of similar greening projects that are being carried out in Mosta, Birkikara, Qormi, and Żabbar. He added that such projects would not be possible if it weren’t for the government’s work in attracting foreign direct investment.

He added that although the need for such green projects was clear, they needed a substantial amount of funding to become a reality.

The Misraħ is-Sebgħa ta’ Ġunju 1919 in Ħamrun project is one of several urban greening projects done by GreenServ. Preparations are also underway for the roofing over part of Santa Venera Tunnels together with the major Project of St. Anne’s Street in Floriana.
