Lithuanian mayor changes name of Russian embassy’s street to ‘Heroes of Ukraine Street’

The mayor of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius has come up with a novel way of punishing Russia for its invasion of Ukraine: by changing the name of a street.

Mayor Remigijus Simasius said a quiet alley in downtown Vilnius where the Russian embassy is located will change its name to “Heroes of Ukraine street.”

“Russian Embassy, update your business cards: Ukrainian Heroes Street 2,” Simasius said on Facebook about the new address. He noted that the business card of every Russian embassy employee will have to honor Ukrainian heroes.

“Everyone who writes a letter to the embassy will have to think about the victims of Russian aggression and heroes of Ukraine,” he said.

The mayor noted in his post that if any post to the embassy is labelled with the street name, then Lithuania's postal service may not be able to complete the delivery of said post.  It didn't take long for Lithuania's postal service itself to comment on the post saying: "We can confirm that if the address is given incorrectly, parcels and letters may fail to deliver even with best efforts."

The name will be changed next week. The Russian embassy did not comment on the change.
