A new Labour government would offer every business in the digital sector a tax credit of €50,000 if they move to Gozo, Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Saturday.

Addressing a political event in Sannat, the PL leader said that if the PL is re-elected to government, every fixed capital investment in Gozo will be reimbursed by up to 40%. Another proposal announced is that of a new research centre. Abela said that Gozo will be benefitting from a total of €162 million in European funds.

Abela also announced that if the PL is re-elected, the Cittadella fortifications will be added to the list of world heritage sites, recognised by UNESCO.

Abela said that he sees Gozo as a symbol of positive change.

He said that if Gozitans are willing to give him his first ‘mandate’ in the next general election, as from next spring the country will continue making progress.  Abela said that such advancements will be stronger than they currently are as the economy is growing, whilst the unemployment rate is at its lowest.

The PL leader said that Gozo will be at the heart of every proposal put forward. He added that what is in store for Malta will first be implemented in Gozo.

During the pandemic the government made sure that the Gozitan economy was at the same level of the Maltese one. Abela said that currently Gozo’s unemployment rate is seven times lower than it was under a Nationalist government.

Mentioning the recently inaugurated ta’ Qortin project, he said that he looks forward to more projects like it.

Abela said that under a new Labour government, schemes will carry a 10% more value when used in Gozo.

Abela said that currently Gozo is also able to produce its own water, with the possibility of also supplying Malta. He added that currently the energy sources in Gozo are all coming from renewable energy.

Present for this political event was also Ghasri mayor Daniel Attard. He said that he felt a strong will to become part of the Labour party and that is why he resigned from the Nationalist Party. The resignation was announced at the start of the election campaign.

He remarked that during this journey as a mayor he has worked together with the government numerous times to implement several projects, in spite of the Ghasri local council being led by a Nationalist majority (until his resignation).
