Addressing constituents in Siggiewi, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne focused on proposals which effect the pandemic and the health sector by announcing two new proposals from the PL manifesto aimed at aiding long-haul Covid-19 patients as well as offering a different solution the deceased.

Another proposal will introduce the use of crematoriums for the first time ever in Malta. “We will be opening our doors to approve licenses for crematoriums to start operating in Malta. Our commitment to everyone is from conception to well after they die.”

Referring to the pandemic, Fearne said that “the past two years have been difficult but we took the necessary decision. Today, thanks to these decisions, Malta finds itself almost back to normality. This was only achieved thanks to the heros of the pandemic, the front liners.”

Shifting focus on medicines, Fearne announced that from 1 April, a new Labour government will be increasing the number of medicines on the government formulary while also extending the glucose monitoring scheme to patients of all ages who suffer from Type 1 diabetes.

“Rare medicines, mental health medicines, cancer medicines and vital HIV medicines will be added to the medicines provided by the government. We will also be improving the service provided to people who are suffering from hearing loss by providing not only one hearing aid as is the norm but providing two.”

Labour Party Deputy Leader Daniel Micallef also announced that, under a new Labour government, “the LGBTIQ+ will be at the forefront of our decision-making process.” He announced that the gender realignment surgery will be provided for free by the government.

Micallef also announced that a new government will be discussing in depth the topic of euthanasia for terminally ill patients.

In his closing statement, Fearne emphasized on the credibility of the current government, asking the PL constituents present whether they want a PN-led government that is envious of power or a government that works for everyone at all costs.
