The PN’s detailed costings for its ESG guidelines will be published within the coming days, said PN chief spokesperson Peter Agius.

During an event held by the Chamber of SMEs on Monday Prime Minister Robert Abela criticised the PN’s reliance on ESG principles in its manifesto, quoting from an EU commission report, where it was found that it costed businesses tens of thousands of euros to satisfy ESG reporting guidelines.

Asked by the media after a press conference whether this was going to be the same result with the PN’s pledges, where in order for a business to benefit from any proposals it needs to comply with ESG guidelines, and how much it would cost a small business to satisfy ECG reporting guidelines, Agius said that the PN has detailed costings which will be published in the coming days.

The PL has been criticising the PN’s business proposals, labelling them as politics with “terms and conditions” because of the fact that businesses would have to be ESG-compliant to benefit from most of its proposals.

In his answer Agius said that apart from costings the PN is seeking to put Malta on the road towards sustainability in between sectors.

“We do not want to remain with the present tensions between different sectors such as the one present between the environment and development” said Agius.

He added that this is why it is important for there to be people with the right character willing to make such changes.
