Former Labour leader Alfred Sant says that he is not in agreement with the sale of golden passports but sees the campaign against the scheme as “farcical”.
In his blog today, the head of the PL delegation at the European Parliament says that the campaign “will not fade away”.
“I was not in agreement with the passports for investment scheme, but still see this campaign as farcical,” he says.
He adds that abuse could happen but those who campaign against the idea have little information about it.
Malta has been under fire for selling passports to people from outside the EU, and the criticism has mounted since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Many Russians have bought a Maltese passport, which gives them access to the EU.
Last week, MEPs voted to demand a ban on the sale of passports.
