Covid-19 active cases rise above 1,500 again; 52-year-old among victims

For the eighth day running, the number of active Covid-19 cases rose again, going beyond the 1,500 threshhold again.

Two more deaths were recorded by the health authorities, one of them a man aged 52 and the other a woman aged 91.

This has taken the number of victims to 617.

In all, 194 cases were reported, with 78 recoveries, meaning that the number of active cases is now 1,527.

The last time Malta had more than 1,500 cases was exactly a month ago, on 15 February.

Forty-three persons are in hospital with Covid, two of whom in intensive care.

The health authorities said that 1,250,293 vaccination doses have been administered, of which 347,009 are booster doses.

Malta has had 73,078 cases of the virus, 70,563 of those have recovered.
