PL government has destroyed Malta’s environment – Grech

The PL has not only failed to prioritize the environment during its 10 years of governing, but has completely destroyed it, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said while addressing a political rally in Balzan.

The country's environment has regressed, so much so that surveys show that 70% of youths in Malta feel the urge to leave the country due to the state of the environment, Grech said. He added that the PL only has short-term fixes and does not have long-term solutions on this issue.

Grech said that the 10 new economic sectors which the PN is proposing will ensure that there will be no negative impacts on the environment. Moreover, they will provide better paid jobs for a better quality of life, Grech said.

"The country needs stability and a focused Prime Minister, who will focus on the country's problems as well as the needed solutions," Grech said, adding that Malta had progressed under PN governments.

Grech said that businesses are suffering from excess bureaucracy and injustices due to Malta's grey listing. He said that businesses are being 'chased and threatened' to return back the money which was given to them in the form of the Covid-19 wage supplement.

"How can businesses recover from the pandemic if the Finance Minister is obliging them to pay back their wage supplements within five years?" Grech asked, adding that businesses are being made to worry unnecessarily.

He said that Prime Minister Robert Abela clearly seems uncomfortable and panicked in his recent appearances, as "he continues to divert attention away from himself and attacks the PN instead," Grech noted. He also said that whilst a few months back Abela seemed certain of himself, now he seems uncomfortable with journalists' questions.

"It is evident that Abela has no idea how to remove the country from the confusion the PL itself brought to Malta," Grech said, referring to the FATF greylisting.

The PN's electoral program was devised after years of consultations with experts as well as the public, which provides a vision that the country really needs, Grech said.
