The PL has pledged to create a socio-economic plan, identifying localities that need assistance and providing them with the finances to improve their local economy, Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Monday.

During a political event in Hamrun, Abela said that such a study will be conducted so that no community will be left behind in the country's economic recovery from Covid-19.

Starup businesses that opt to open in the localities that will be identified, will be given €15,000 in grants, aside from benefitting from schemes that are already in place.

Businesses in these localities will also be given up to 50% back from the expenses they spend to improve their workplace, up to a total of €15,000.

Another measure that will help boost these communities is the first time buyers scheme, whereby these buyers who purchase a vacant UCA property in these localities will benefit from a doubling of the already existent schemes.

Speaking about the PL, he said that the party believes in the country's economic recovery and that no community should be left behind.

Abela said that after 2013, it was a PL government that created a solid economy from which private investment was made into sectors that were stagnant. He added that now that the economy is stronger than it was in 2019, such wealth needs to be spread across different sectors.

He added that with the different measures being proposed, such as an increase in pensions and the increase in the children's allowance, the lives of everyone in Malta will improve.

Abela said that unlike the PN, the PL's measures do not come with terms and conditions.

Abela noted that the PL is not going to ignore the realities of the people. He added that together with the mayors of different localities, they have already addressed problems by introducing the concept of community policing, which he said needs to spread to other localities.

The Prime Minister said that unlike PN, a PL government has paid overtime to the police and given them a new collective agreement, which is expected to be replaced by an even better one soon.
