Lies are the only weapon the Labour Party has left - Grech

Lies are the only weapon the Labour Party has left, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said during a political event in Mqabba on Thursday evening.

"The Labour Party started its election campaign with a lie by saying that I would not contest this district. Robert Abela, I will contest this district with conviction, and not out of convenience like you just because you want to try and remove candidates like Miriam Dalli. I am contesting this district as I lived in this district."

"Since they started this campaign with a lie, they continued with lies and will finish it with lies, as that is the only weapon they have left."

During his speech, he took aim at Abela and the recent scandals surrounding his involvement in a property deal with Christian Borg as well as his Zejtun Villa.

Grech also mentioned the Freeport and the motorsports track. "The PL has been promising it (the track) for ten years, but if you put your faith in us, we will undertake this project and make it a success."

Grech said that while the track will advance the racing hobby, it can also cause certain inconvenience, as the Freeport today still does. He promised to mitigate the inconvenience of both. He said that the Freeport generates wealth for the country while also offering many jobs for people, and thus is very important. He pledged, however, that a PN government will invest to drastically reduce the inconvenience that the Freeport causes on Birzebbugia residents.

The PN will not take the road that the PL did, "offering double or triple glazing, essentially telling you to stay indoors. You have a right to keep your windows open, to stay in your gardens, to peace and quiet. We will invest so that the Freeport operations work well but cause less inconvenience for the Birzebbugia residents."

As for the motorsports track, He gave his word that there would be enough investment so that it will use the best technology to mitigate noise and respect all the residents in the area.

Grech turned to feasts and fireworks enthusiasts, saying that a PN government would improve the legal framework governing fireworks, while also reading out a list of pledges for these sectors.

The PN Leader also took aim at Robert Abela for "running away" from a debate with him at Junior College with students, "instead preferring to attend a walkabout somewhere in Malta instead. Abela does not respect our students and for him they are not important."
