Updated: Early voting turnout nearly 60% by 2pm

Voters who opted to take up the opportunity of early voting for different reasons cast their preference at the Naxxar counting hall on Saturday.

At 7.30pm, the Electoral Commission issued a statement saying that the approximate percentage voting turnout up to 2pm was as follows:

Registered voters:       9,477

Votes cast:                  5,671

 

Approximate percentage:    59.8%

The Electoral Commission has provided the opportunity to voters who will be abroad on polling day, 26 March, or have some medical or other commitment to cast their vote at Naxxar during the whole day today.

Electoral commissioners as well as other people who will be involved directly in the organisation of the election next Saturday also have the opportunity to vote today.

Voting for the general election for persons who are currently quarantined or have tested positive for Covid-19 have also started, in special voting stations around Malta and Gozo.

The centres will be in the Smart City car park, in Ta Qali, in the Life Sciences car park in San Ġwann and in Xħajma, Xewkija, near the horse track.
