Friday, 8 April 2022, 12:15 Last update: about 3 years ago

Works on the modernization of the distribution centre for electricity in Tarxien has been completed, Enemalta said.

The investment, which reaches over €2 million, will aid Enemalta in keeping up with increasing demand and will provide better stability in the provision of electricity for the localities depending on the centre.

Over the past months, works have been done to replace three transformers of around 50 tons each, which have now been completed.

Enemalta engineers and technicians installed and carried out all the necessary works in a way that no provision of electricity was disturbed, as thousands of clients depend on this centre which is connected to 166 substation from the Cottonera to Luqa.

Minister for the Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli said that “Enemalta is committed to further strengthening its distribution system. This project is part of Enemalta’s €90 million investment plan announced earlier this year.”

Dalli said that the plan will be implemented over a six year period to further strengthen the electricity distribution system.

“Maintenance can be carried out without the need to suspend power supply,” engineer Karl Xerri said. He added that the new transformers have surveillance technology and a system to ensure that the oil in the transformers is kept under good condition.
