The hunting federation said Tuesday it is “examining all possible avenues” to counter the court action filed by Birdlife Malta in a bid to stop the spring hunting season.

The NGO said Monday it had filed a warrant of prohibitory injunction in Court against the upcoming European turtle-dove spring hunting season, requesting the closure of the season effective immediately.

In a statement, FKNK said it was informing hunters who are already in possession of the required licence to hunt turtle doves from this Sunday that it is examining all possible avenues, including legal, to counter-act said mandate.
The FKNK said it will also be offering all its legal, scientific and technical expertise at its disposal to the Mandate Respondents that is, the Prime Minister, the Gozo Minister, the Environment Minister and the Wild Birds Regulation Unit (WBRU).
“The FKNK will keep hunters adequately adjourned and may issue any directives as, when and if necessary.”
