Two men were critically injured in a traffic accident on the Regional Road leading to the Santa Venera tunnels, northbound direction.

The accident took place at around 4.50pm.

It involved a Suzuki Alto driven by a 49-year-old man of Floriana and a Honda Jazz driven by a 43-year-old man of Valletta, with both vehicles on their way in the direction of Marsa.

The Suzuki driver and a passenger who was later identified as being an Italian 48-year-old man resident in Fgura were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the other car was unhurt.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia is leading an inquiry.
