Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg has requested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy address the Maltese Parliament when it restarts.

Borg was referring to a conversation he had with Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba. Kuleba, Borg said, is grateful for the assistance his country is receiving from Malta.

Borg mentioned the kind of assistance Malta is providing – humanitarian, medical interventions, in the educational sector and also welcoming Ukrainian refugees.

The Maltese Foreign Affairs Minister informed Kuleba that Malta is fully taking part in the sanctions against Russia imposed by the EU and is committed to implementing them.

“He understood perfectly why Malta has until now not expelled Russian diplomats, and this due to the small size of the Maltese embassy in Moscow.”

“I asked him to consider asking President Zelenskyy to address the Maltese Parliament after it restarts, a request which was appreciated. He promised me that he will recommend that this happen.”
