The PN on Saturday called on the government to take immediate action to reduce the waiting list for emergency surgery at the Orthopedics Department at Mater Dei Hospital.
PN spokesperson for health Stephen Spiteri said that many patients are suffering from unacceptable delays when their medical condition requires urgent surgery.
He said that these delays can lead to further health complications especially for the elderly and vulnerable individuals.
The lack of operating tables, anaesthetists and theatre nurses are among the factors leading to these delays.
The PN said that it has long insisted on a solution for the excessive waiting lists in the care and service of Mater Dei Hospital, which is reducing quality and efficiency, and must be addressed immediately.
