Monday, 25 April 2022, 17:17 Last update: about 3 years ago

The University of Malta has issued information for students regarding the MATSEC examinations.

The University of Malta said it has been monitoring the situation with the pandemic and, as in the previous two years, it will address the concerns candidates/applicants may have because of the mandatory quarantine measures.

In view of the latest developments announced by the Public Health Authorities, UoM would like to inform candidates sitting for MATSEC examination (at all levels) of the following.

All examinations will be held in accordance with the official examinations timetable as published by MATSEC. Students who miss one or multiple exams during the April - June 2022 session are still eligible to sit these subjects during the Supplementary/Second 2022 session.

Meanwhile, UM/JC will keep a record of those students who missed or will be missing an examination (or part thereof) because they are impacted by the quarantine measures. SEC students are therefore encouraged to fill in this form to indicate which subjects (or components thereof) they have missed.

Students sitting for their Matriculation Examinations are requested to complete and submit this form at the earliest possible opportunity.

Only those students missing an exam (or part thereof) until May 1, 2022 need to fill-in either form.

Admission into the Junior College (SEC Exams)

In accordance with the new entry requirements, which will come into effect as of October 2022, students may apply to join the JC if they are in possession of six passes at SEC level (grades 1-5), one of which must be in a core subject (Maltese, English Language or Mathematics).

Students who are missing one or more SEC subjects because they were in mandatory quarantine, can still apply to join the Junior College, provided that they are committed to sitting for the missing subjects in the 2022 Supplementary/Second session.

If in September 2022 students fail to obtain a pass mark (at least a Grade 5) in the required subject or subjects, or in the event that the examination is not available in the Supplementary 2022 session, they will need to present their case to the Junior College Board.

Entry into UM

Students applying for admission to UM in October 2022 should be familiar with the following.

Firstly, all applicants are required to meet the University's entry requirements or at least satisfy the new requirements as part of the probationary system that will apply as of October 2022. Access the details of these requirements.

Secondly, students who are still missing any entry requirements after the 2022 September/Second 2022 session should contact the University's Admissions Office via e-mail.

"As has been the case since the onset of the pandemic, the University remains committed to assisting prospective students in every way possible, in order to ensure that no one misses out on the pursuit of further studies as a result of mandatory quarantine. Prospective students are also advised to consult the university's website for the latest updates."
