PL general conference to be held over the weekend

The Labour party’s general conference will be held over the weekend, starting on Friday, at its headquarters in Hamrun.

A month after the general election, which the PL won with a record majority, the PL will hold the conference to confirm its leadership trio.

The general conference is set to confirm Robert Abela as leader, Chris Fearne as deputy leader for parliamentary affairs, as well as PL Deputy Leader for Party Affairs, Daniel Micallef.

The conference will start with a plenary session, followed by the opening of the voting for the confirmation of the roles. The plenary will be addressed by Prime Minister Robert Abela.

The voting will last till 9:30pm and continue the next day, Saturday between 9am and 5pm at the headquarters in Malta.

The process will also continue at the PL headquarters in Rabat, Gozo, from 10.30am to 2pm.

The conference will come to an end on Sunday morning.

The Labour Party will also be holding a mass gathering on Sunday afternoon, to celebrate Worker's Day.

The Nationalist Party has already started the process of its general council, where the party leader will be elected. Currently, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech is expected to be the sole contested for PN leadership, retaining his post despite the party’s defeat in the March election.

Nominations for the post of PN party leader are currently open for this week which will allow any member of the party to contest the election.
