New racecar unveiled by Malta’s Formula Student Team

Wednesday, 11 May 2022, 13:16 Last update: about 3 years ago

Hagar Qim Heritage Park took on a modern look over the weekend with the visitor’s centre turning into a showcase for Malta’s very own Formula Student Team: University of Malta Racing.

Their latest racecar was unveiled against the backdrop of some of the oldest free standing structures in the world, Hagar Qim Temples.

As an interdisciplinary team of students, the University of Malta Racing (UoMR) team designs, builds and races formula-style race cars in Formula Student events overseas. The team is set to compete in Formula Student UK at the Silverstone Race Circuit in the first week of July. Until then, the team will be busy tweaking and testing the student-built newly unveiled vehicle, as well as making sure the student drivers are well prepared.

The competition enforces a strict rule that each season, a new racecar must be built in order to expose the students to the whole process of design, simulation, manufacturing, and testing.

Present at the event were Professor Ing. Simon Fabri, Pro-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer and Hon. Dr Clifton Grima, the Minister for Education and Sport, who praised the students' efforts and reiterated his support for the team who will be representing the country.

University of Malta Racing thanked all its sponsors and collaborators who help the organisation achieve its goals: The University of Malta, the team’s Faculty Advisor, Dr Ing. Emmanuel Francalanza, as well as the many staff members who offer their academic knowledge, resources, expert advice and other help, without which this ongoing project would not be possible.

A special thanks also went to The Ministry of Education, TechMT, Empav, Tekmoulds, Enemed, Express Trailers, Heritage Malta, Kamoy, Mita, Playmobil, Silvercraft, Trelleborg, G Molton, MatoTech, Jekran, Wurth, MGTech, Rotta, Ricardo, TakeOff, ACMA Malta, Schrott Racing, Embroidery and More, Cardona Engineering, Esplora, Fabian Enterprises, Invent 3D, SKF, T Zoqdi Racing, GT Power, IKC , Carven Engineering, Debsons Autoparts and MST Audiovisual.
