A 13-year-old girl has been hospitalised after she was hit by a pick-up on Friday morning.

Police said in a statement that the accident took place at around 11am in Triq Dun Karm Psaila in Birkirkara.

Preliminary investigations showed that the 13-year-old girl, who is a Slovakian who lives in San Gwann, was hit by a Toyota Hilux which was being driven by a 32-year-old from Attard.

The girl was given medical assistance on site and taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance where she was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

Police investigations are ongoing.
