Central Bank of Malta hosts the 120th Information Technology Committee

The Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Professor Edward Scicluna delivered a welcome address during the 120th Information Technology Committee (ITC) meeting held in Malta between the 18 and 20 May 2022.

The ITC forms part of the European System of Central Banks Committees. This year's ITC meeting was the first post-pandemic, out-of-Frankfurt meeting and was hosted by the Central Bank of Malta.

Addressing over 60 participants, Governor Scicluna highlighted the importance of investing in new technologies particularly with regards to countries such as Malta whose economic survival depends on the diversification of economic sectors especially new ones. Governor Scicluna stated that central banks are constantly facing ongoing challenges and maintained that "our future is highly technology-based and working together by investing heavily in new technologies will help us address the present and potential future challenges together."

With the ITC Committee meeting being hosted in Malta, the Governor also had the pleasure of a courtesy visit at the Central Bank of Malta by European Central Bank representatives, Ms Claudia Plattner, Director General Information Systems and Mr Magí Clavé, Deputy Director General Information Systems.
