The disciplinary procedure against Assistant Commissioner Ian Abdilla is still pending, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri has said.
In 2021, Abdilla, who is a former head of the economic crimes unit and had been widely criticised for inaction against top government officials over allegations of wrongdoing, was suspended from the force. This happened soon after the Daphne Caruana Galizia public inquiry was published.
Camilleri was responding to a Parliamentary Question filed by PN MP Karol Aquilina, who asked at what stage the disciplinary procedure against Abdilla is at.
