The roofing project for the Santa Venera tunnels is expected to cost €35 million, Energy and Environment Minister Miriam Dalli said on Wednesday.

She was replying to a parliamentary question by PN MP Darren Carabott, who asked for a general update on the Santa Venera roofing project as promises were made by government for it to be completed by next year.

In her answer, Dalli stated that studies are still underway and the final cost of the project is that of €35 million. This is €15 million more than the estimate former minister Jose Herrera had given back in 2019.

The project is aimed at reducing traffic noise and pollution for the residential areas above and although it was promised years ago, Dalli stated that “the project is being scrutinised to the smallest detail.”
