Former Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia has said that he has not been approached to contest the 2024 European Parliament elections and added that it is something which he has never considered.
Delia was reacting to a story carried by The Times of Malta on Wednesday which stated that the former PN leader was exploring the possibility of running to become an MEP in 2024.
“Without getting into needless controversies, I want to clarify that nobody from the party’s leadership has approached me to contest the European Parliament elections,” Delia wrote on his Facebook page.
“It’s not even something which I considered doing on my part,” Delia added.
Delia served as PN leader in a tumultuous period for the party between 2017 and 2020, when he was ousted by party members and replaced by current leader Bernard Grech.
Delia was one of the PN’s best performers in the 2022 general election, and was easily elected in both the districts he contested.
The PN will be doing everything to recover from its dismal electoral showings over the past decade in any election it has contested.
Veteran MEP and current European Parliament President Roberta Metsola is expected to lead the charge for the PN as they seek to win back the third seat at the European Parliament.
