The partnership between the BBC and the Malta Tourism Association is promoting Malta in a different way, not just for its sun and sea, Tourism minister Clayton Bartolo said on Friday.

He said that the world famous BBC concert orchestra rock anthems, which is set to happen in Malta on 9 July, is going to be recording and later transmitted in autumn in the UK.

Speaking about the partnership, Bartolo said that it is one of the best the country has had in the past three years.

Referring to the event, he said that he has no doubt that the outcome is going to be a good one, as also the MTA has been working hard over the last few months.

He said that the concert which had taken place for the first-time last year, is expected to perform well, since it already did under Covid-19 restrictions.

Representing the BBC, and the person in charge responsible for relationships formation, Jason Carter said that from this event, the tourism industry will benefit.

"BBC radio reaches out to 14 million people every week in the UK", he said.

He added that last year everyone was excited for the concert.

Speaking about the event, MTA Chairman Gavin Gulia said that the return of the BBC concert is going to be welcomed with enthusiasm.

He said that around 20 different hits, which are either pop or rock, some of which are from the 80s and 90s, are going to be played in the granaries.

Gulia said tourism is not just about creating numbers, but "we have to create a good product; events being one of these products."

The event will be packed even more this year is, he said, and it will be of "service to the tourism industry", and to everyone attending.
