Establishments in two more streets in Valletta will be allowed to play music until 1am, rather than 11pm, after the government updated a controversial legal notice.
The legal notice in question has been a source of consternation with the capital city’s local council and with its residents, a group of whom protested against it outside the council’s offices on Monday.
The legal notice states that music can be played to 1am - rather than the usual 11pm - in establishments located in Merchants Street, Old Bakery Street, Old Theatre Street, Republic Street, South Street, St. Lucia Street, and Strait Street.
Now, the same rules will apply for establishments in Archbishop Street and Saint Ursula Street.
The local council said last week that it was only made aware of the changes when the legal notice itself was issued, and said that there was no discussion with them on its implementation.
