Valletta is being heavily commercialised - Mario de Marco

Tuesday, 14 June 2022, 17:52 Last update: about 3 years ago

We are commercialising Valletta too much, PN MP Mario Demarco said on Tuesday.

During Parliament, de Marco said that Valletta is being heavily commercialised, with reference to the latest legal notice with which the government added another two streets in the capital city in which music can be played till 1 a.m.

Mario de Marco said that residents who invested their money in a property have a right to enjoy their residence, without any drop in their property's value.

"We are going to change the recipe for Valletta's success" he said.

De Marco urged the government to revoke its legal notice and said that there should be a 'fair balance' between the residential and commercial sides of Valletta.

Earlier last week, Valletta's local council minority leader Christian Micallef has come out strongly against the legal notice and revealed that the local council was not informed and considered beforehand.

In a post on Facebook on Monday, he said: "The Government's attitude towards the legal notice on how long music can be played outside around Valletta is unacceptable. It confirms the arrogance of the leadership, but more than that, it clearly shows that the Labour Party in Government is not interested in the inconvenience that this change in the law has already begun to bring to the lives of Valletta residents, particularly the elderly and the sick."
