Pirates and animals ... chances are that your children are fascinated by either one or the other. There are children who wouldn't miss a pirate adventure and there are others who get completely engrossed reading about animals, be they exotic, farm or domestic.

This might be the reason behind the success of book series like Il-Pirati and Il-Ħbieb tal-annimali: Taqsima Investigattiva which Merlin Publishers published a few years ago. In fact, children will be thrilled to know that another 4 books have just been added to these series.

Il-Pirati recounts the adventures of Tommy, Marija and Willy. Tommy and Marija are not your ordinary brother and sister. Well, they are in the sense that they squabble and compete with each other like other siblings. But they are different because their grandfather is none other than a famous pirate. Nannu Ġanni and his parrot Mr Moody, had many swashbuckling adventures in their time. Now their grandfather is retired, but pirate blood still runs in the family - and the brother and sister, together with their neighbour Willy, are always in search of adventure.

The two new books in the pirate series are: Ix-Xini Fantażma, in which the children see a ghost ship at sea and decide to investigate, and Gżira Tassew Misterjuża, where in one of their voyages, the three friends find an unknown island, and adventure ensues.

In the other series, Il-Ħbieb tal-Annimali: Taqsima Investigattiva, we meet Adele, Louise and Rose, three girls who are very passionate about animals. Between them they have a pony, a dog, two cats, a canary, rabbits and even a pet snail. And as you can imagine, their pets are the topic of their daily chats!

The first new book in this series, Il-Panda Ċkejken Meħlus, the girls go on vacation to China with Rose's mum, and whilst at a natural reserve, they witness a baby panda being released in its natural habitat. In the second book, Il-Mohor Midrub, our friends find a young pony that got lost and injured during a storm, and they decide to make it their mission to find its mother!
