There have been more Covid-19 related deaths in less than six months of 2022 than the whole of 2021, statistics issued by the health department show.

Between 1 January 2022 and today, 259 patients have died with Covid-19.

In the whole of 2021, 258 patients died.

This means that around five persons per week died with Covid-19 during 2021, but this doubled to more than 10 persons per week so far in 2022.

In 2020, the number of deaths from Covid – the first case was registered in March of that year – was 219.

This means an average of around five deaths for the 10 months of Covid we had that year.

In all, 736 patients have died in 120 weeks since the first Covid case was recorded in Malta - an average of more than six persons per week.
